If you like contemporary African fantasy also do check out Ben Okri's The Famished Road, more on the magic realism side but still a great ride.
Thanks Roger. Will do. And have also read "The Wind Follower" by Carol McDonnell and am constantly searching for new stories which take SF and Fantasy above and beyond the standard fare.
Oops. Meant Carole (with an "e") McDonnell; I always do the phonetic thin from memory. first... :)
You've probably already read his stuff, but China Meiville works fantasy in some pretty interesting ways - the New Crobuzon trilogy is really interesting, and Kraken, his new one, is pretty neat.
Hiyo, WM: No, have not read China's works, though I have read a review of Kraken, and as you noted it appears interesting. I shall look into adding it to my list as a first foray into CM's fiction. Thanks! :)
