Dave Hickey on The Evils of Creationism: Art History According to Darwin October 21, 2009

The title has less to do with the matter being discussed. As I cannot embed it here (for some reason) here is the video link at the Smithsonian.

I agree. I believe that it is the creativity and innovation of the rich individuality found in our American melting pot.... and as Dave Hickey asserts, art should be the avenue we use to express this. Therefore, as he asserts, we need to stop the "ethos of inclusiveness; read 'dumb down'" and return to valuing individuality (differences).

We cannot fear the unknown. We cannot fit everything into a neatly crafted cookie cutter shape. We must fearlessly explore the "tempestuous sea of freedom"...

    As Buddha said,
"Believe nothing just because a so-called wise person said it. Believe nothing just because a belief is generally held. Believe nothing just because it is said in ancient books. Believe nothing just because it is said to be of divine origin. Believe nothing just because someone else believes it. Believe only what you yourself test and judge to be true."

Rob, I really enjoy this ongoing theme you have about "thinking outside the box" and the importance of curiosity, creativity and innovation.

    Must go paint now...
