Armies of Oerth, Part XIII: Northern Barbarians

Using the Field of Glory wargaming rules & Dragon Magazine #57, I will continue representing Gary Gygax's Orders of Battle for certain renowned armies from the World of Greyhawk.

These army lists are abit more subjective. The only army layout provided by Gygax was for the Frost Barbarians. The other two lists are based on comments from the article, brief blurbs from the World of Greyhawk Gazetteer, and some comparative army structure from Field of Glory supplement books.

Ratio: 250 men-at-arms per base.

Frost Barbarian's Army List

Commander-in-Chief: King Ralff II, Frost Barbarians
(F 15th level) = 1 base

Light Cavalry: 500 = 2 bases
(2 models/bases; riders on horses, no armour & small shields, hand weapons)

Heavy Infantry: 2,000 = 8 bases
(4 models/base; foot troops, heavy armour & substantial shields, hand weapons)

Armoured Infantry: 12,500 = 50 bases
(3 models/base; foot troops, helm & chest armour, moderate shields, hand weapons)

So, this totals 61 bases with 187 models on them.

Ice Barbarians' Army List

Commander-in-Chief: King Lolgoff Bearhair, Ice Barbarians
(F 14th level) = 1 base

Heavy Infantry: 2,000 = 8 bases
(4 models/base; foot troops, heavy armour & substantial shields, hand weapons)

Armoured Infantry: 6,000 = 24 bases
(3 models/base; foot troops, helm & chest armour, moderate shields, hand weapons)

Medium Infantry: 4,000 = 16 bases
(3 models/base; foot troops, leather armour & moderate shields, hand weapons)

Light Infantry: 6,000 = 24 bases
(2 models/base; foot troops, no armour, small shields, hand weapons)

So, this totals 73 bases with 201 models on them.

Snow Barbarians' Army List

Commander-in-Chief: King Orvung, Snow Barbarians
(F 16th level) = 1 base

Heavy Cavalry: 1,000 = 4 bases
(3 models/base; knights on horses, heavy armour & barding, substantial shields, hand weapons)

Light Cavalry: 1,000 = 4 bases
(2 models/base; riders on horses, no armour & small shields, hand weapons)

Heavy Infantry: 4,000 = 16 bases
(4 models/base; foot troops, heavy armour & substantial shields, hand weapons)

Armoured Infantry: 6,000 = 24 bases
(3 models/base; foot troops, helm & chest armour, moderate shields, hand weapons)

Medium Infantry: 8,000 = 32 bases
(3 models/base; foot troops, leather armour & moderate shields, hand wepoans)

So, this totals 81 bases with 253 models on them.
